Frequently Asked Questions
Question: What time period does this class cover?
Answer: Every time period of mankind. This class starts in the ancient worlds of the early river civilization and ends in the modern world of the 21st century.
Question: How do I prepare for tests?
Answer: Tests cover information from both class notes/activities and home reading/research. It is important that you do not fall behind, so home reading assignments are vital. Reviewing your notes each night will engrain material into your memory as will extra research. Take advantage of all review material, and be sure to come to tutorials if there is something you do not fully understand or if you were absent.
Question: Do you offer extra credit?
Answer: Yes. Throughout the year there will be various activities done outside of class through which you can earn extra daily credit. Extra credit cannot be applied to tests or major grades. Remember, extra credit is a priviledge and not an entitlement, so teacher discretion will determine the possibility for extra credit assignments.
Question: What if I cannot make it to tutorials?
Answer: Find a computer and log into Scribblar using the link on our class homepage. During tutorial hours, this site is active, and we can communicate (write, draw, message, and talk) through this online connection. Also, don't forget to be active on Edmodo where our class is in constant communication.
Question: What if I cannot make it to tutorials to make up a test I missed?
Answer: Make an appointment with me at least one day in advance, and I will do my best to accommodate your schedule.
Question: Do you write letters of recommendation for scholarships and applications?
Answer: Yes! I'm always more than glad to help you reach your goals in any way that I can. Please give me at least one week notice for any written letters you may require.
Question: What supplies do students need to buy?
Answer: lined paper (loose leaf or spiral bound), pencils, blue and/or black pens, glue or tape, and map pencils. In addition, you will need a spiral notebook for assignments. A pair of inexpensive headphones or earphones that can be used with a computer is recommended (*not required*) for research assignments because some tasks call for video and audio access.
Question: What is the class cell phone policy?
Answer: "Students must obtain prior approval before using personal telecommunications or other personal electronic devices for instructional use. Students must also sign a user agreement that contains applicable rules for use (separate from this handbook). When students are not using the devices for approved instructional purposes, all devices must be turned off during the instructional day..." (page 29, Student Handbook). In our class, technology use for educational purposes is encouraged when directed by the teacher. For more details, please refer to the student handbook.
Question: How will my interactive notebook be graded?
Answer: Check out this rubric! While all grades are subject to my judgement, this is the guide that I use to evaluate your final product.
